This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to apply creative processes to develop and present jewellery or object design solutions. 1. Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Identify job requirements from specifications
2. Prepare for design process
  • 2.1 Determine implications for design process from design brief
  • 2.2 Develop work plan of activities that identifies and prioritises tasks
  • 2.3 Identify and collect required numerical and other data
  • 2.4 Select and prepare appropriate media and equipment
3. Apply design processes to develop concepts
  • 3.1 Conduct research to inform generation of ideas and design concepts for jewellery or object
  • 3.2 Complete drawings to develop ideas and gain perspectives and views for jewellery or object
  • 3.3 Develop design concepts with consideration of elements and principles of design
  • 3.4 Assess design implications of specialist jewellery or object production techniques and apply to design concepts
  • 3.5 Identify and consider characteristics of jewellery or object materials to the development of design concepts and determine most suitable options
  • 3.6 Apply creative processes of exploration and experimentation to develop jewellery or object design concepts
  • 3.7 Establish basic forms and proportions based on outcomes of the design process
4.Refine design concepts and select solution
  • 4.1 Assess concepts for production viability and adherence to design brief
  • 4.2 Identify key stakeholders and discuss concepts, seeking feedback on design
  • 4.3 Select and refine design solution based on feedback and further testing
  • 4.4 Develop work plan that clearly outlines activities and design specifications
  • 4.5 Document design process providing clear information on the path to chosen design solution
5. Document and present design solution
  • 5.1 Prepare documentation and drawings of design solution that clearly demonstrate features and specifications
  • 5.2 Present design solution to client or relevant personnel and seek feedback
