Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, monitor and coordinate emergency preparedness and response systems for surface operations emergencies in the resources and infrastructure industries.It applies to those who work in supervisory roles. They are generally responsible for the outcomes of others, contribute to the development of solutions to nonroutine problems, and apply management plans in the workplace.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

1. Plan and prepare to apply emergency preparedness and response systems
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply documentation required for surface operations emergency preparedness and response systems
  • 1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and assess potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Access, interpret and explain emergency preparedness and response plans
  • 1.6 Identify, interpret and communicate roles and responsibilities, as specified in the emergency and response plans
  • 1.7 Communicate and coordinate activities with others prior to work activity
  • 1.8 Identify, obtain and allocate resources required for the application of the plan
  • 1.9 Identify training needs of individuals, and prepare training plans
2. Apply emergency preparedness and response plan
  • 2.1 Receive, confirm and communicate incident information to required personnel
  • 2.2 Identify, assess and communicate type and scope of the incident
  • 2.3 Apply and monitor emergency response, evacuation and action plans/procedures
  • 2.4 Apply procedures for monitoring, recording and reporting on emergency incident
  • 2.5 Apply procedures for collection, analysis and validation of emergency preparedness and response data
  • 2.6 Manage the incident according to own job role
  • 2.7 Identify and locate emergency equipment and apply to the incident
  • 2.8 Isolate potential sources of danger and install warning signs/signals/barriers
  • 2.9 Coordinate and control response to incident
  • 2.10 Communicate incident information to required personnel
  • 2.11 Participate in audit, debrief and review requirements
  • 2.12 Process required written records and reports
3. Apply emergency preparedness and response plan routine maintenance procedures
  • 3.1 Schedule and carry out inspections, equipment repair and maintenance activities
  • 3.2 Record and report required maintenance, and recommend corrective actions
