Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to process colour materials in a wet darkroom environment to produce colour negatives and transparencies. It also describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare and maintain a specific work space and to select materials and equipment required for colour film processing. It is a specialisation unit and refers to specific photographic processing techniques and must be linked with a unit in which images are captured. This work is carried out with supervision.Current photoimaging industry practice relies increasingly on digital imaging processes and this should be reflected in training and assessment of this unit. Analogue equipment and processes may be used to support this as appropriate to the specific context.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare the work space for colour processing.
- 1.1 Correctly determine the appropriate colour process from supplied pre-exposed film.1.2 Correctly identify work space needs for processing the film.1.3 Select work space which meets requirements for film processing.1.4 Adhere to codes of practice and workplace safety requ-irements for the process selected and the work place.
2 Produce colour negatives and/or transparencies.
- 2.1 Safely process the film in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.2.2 Cut, sleeve or file negatives and make proof sheet or workprints, if required.
3 Plan the production of colour prints from colour negatives and/or transparencies.
- 3.1 Determine the concept for the photographic print from proofs, work prints or transparencies.3.2 Evaluate and select options to manipulate and output photographic prints to meet requirements of work.
4 Make colour prints.
- 4.1 Use selected negative/s and transparency/s and correctly apply the manipulation and output options.4.2 Test and review results of manipulation and output options.4.3 Compare outcome with planned concept and refine to achieve optimum result.4.4 Accurately document the process in accordance with workplace procedures.4.5 Safely store processed film for future use in accordance with workplace procedures.
5 Restore work space, materials, and equipment and ensure safe storage.
- 5.1 Safely restore work area after use.5.2 Minimise and clean up waste in accordance with safety requirements. 5.3 Clean and maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.5.4 Store equipment in accordance with workplace procedures and ensure readiness for future use.

direct observation of the candidate using colour processing and printing techniques
questioning and discussion about candidate's intention and work outcome
verbal or written reports
evaluation of work prints produced by the candidate
review of folios of evidence
third party workplace reports of performance by the candidate.
Assessment methods should closely reflect workplace demands (e.g. literacy) and the needs of particular groups (e.g. people with disabilities and people who may have literacy or numeracy difficulties such as speakers of languages other than English, remote communities and those with interrupted schooling).
