This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to blend stockpile materials in Coal and Metalliferous mining and Extractive.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational or supervisory roles. No licensing or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for blending stockpile materials
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply blending of stockpile materials documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, interpret and clarify work instructions
  • 1.3 Complete start up checks, and prepare work area
  • 1.4 Identify, manage and report potential hazards and risks
  • 1.5 Select and wear personal protective equipment
  • 1.6 Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
  • 1.7 Identify and locate correct material grade according to stockpile plan
  • 1.8 Using site communication methods and systems, communicate clearly and concisely in English work requirements to others
  • 1.9 Follow emergency procedures and ensure safety of others, plant and equipment
2. Blend materials
  • 2.1 Select the correct quantity and grade of material, use appropriate blending techniques and check required blend of minerals is achieved
  • 2.2 Monitor the surrounding site, access roads and ensure they are not contaminated
  • 2.3 Monitor blending process and ensure correct grades of minerals are selected
  • 2.4 Identify contaminants, remove, and follow contaminant management procedure
  • 2.5 Prepare written record and reports for contaminants and the process used to remedy or remove the contaminant
3. Carry out post-operational procedures
  • 3.1 Inspect, determine faults and report equipment faults
  • 3.2 Carry out operational maintenance, servicing, lubricating and housekeeping tasks
  • 3.3 Process written records and reports
