Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create prosthetic pieces for special make-up effects in productions for the screen, media and entertainment industries. This includes creating realistic prosthetics ranging from facial parts, wounds and larger facial or body pieces, and multiple or overlapping appliances, using current techniques and materials, including platinum-based silicone, life-casting and urethane for moulds. The unit applies to those who possess sophisticated interpersonal skills due to the lengthy creation process of prosthetic pieces and the extensive interaction with performers. They can work alone or, on largescale productions, they can be responsible for supervising other staff. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
