Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop significant modifications to an existing enterprise control system, or develop a replacement system, and oversee the implementation of the changes.This unit applies to technical experts, team leaders, senior staff, managers or others who have been given the responsibility to determine enterprise control system needs of the organisation, liaise with technical experts, vendors and other stakeholders to define the replacement or modified system, facilitate approvals and oversee implementation of the changes. Within this unit ‘enterprise control systems’ refer to information technology (IT) systems that integrate data from several processes or operations across the organisation to support overall effectiveness and efficiency. Examples include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Materials Resource Planning (MRPII), supply chain management systems and management control systems.This unit applies to any organisation that has an enterprise control system in place. No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Monitor information and control needs of organisation
  • 1.1 Check use of current information
  • 1.2 Check operation of current control systems
  • 1.3 Communicate with key information users regarding new or changed information control needs, including information needs from and to value stream
  • 1.4 Identify shortcomings in information and control provision
  • 1.5 Take or initiate corrective action to address identified shortcomings
2. Check current system against organisation needs
  • 2.1 Check routine use of system
  • 2.2 Check system alarm or non-conformance notification and control operation
  • 2.3 Communicate with key stakeholders about current system use and application
  • 2.4 Determine effect of non-conformance on enterprise system
  • 2.5 Identify problems and issues and address in accordance with procedures
3. Determine specifications for a new or modified system
  • 3.1 Identify needs that require new system or modifications to current system
  • 3.2 Draft scope, specifications and outcomes required
  • 3.3 Liaise with key stakeholders, vendors and technical experts to refine scope, specifications and outcomes for new or modified system
  • 3.4 Facilitate agreement on final scope, specifications and outcomes
4. Develop system
  • 4.1 Develop written project plan
  • 4.2 Facilitate approvals and support for implementation of project
  • 4.3 Facilitate ongoing consultation with stakeholders
  • 4.4 Oversee implementation of development project
  • 4.5 Manage trialling of modified system
  • 4.6 Ensure modified system meets organisational requirements
  • 4.7 Take or initiate action to addressskills and/or other development needs to support system
