This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to assist with waste resource recovery operations. The unit covers identifying and reporting hazards and risks, and monitoring the recovery site to ensure waste containment, adequate access and availability of space. The unit requires the ability to segregate resources for recovery, and identify and contain hazardous and non-conforming waste types. It also requires assisting to conduct quality inspections of segregated resources for recovery. The unit includes assisting to shut down equipment, and clean and decontaminate equipment and the work area once activities are finalised.The unit supports those who work under supervision in a waste management team.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.
