Description
This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to maintain winder equipment in Coal and Metalliferous mining. This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.No licensing, legislation or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for winder equipment inspection and maintenance
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply documentation to maintaining winder equipment and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
- 1.3 Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues and implement control measures
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activity
- 1.5 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- 1.6 Set up and schedule work
- 1.7 Resolve coordination requirements with others at the site prior to commencing, during and on completion of work activities
2. Conduct winder equipment maintenance
- 2.1 Check and prepare appropriate tools, materials and services
- 2.2 Perform all isolation and tagging out
- 2.3 Ensure winder is placed in inspection/maintenance mode, including "inching"
- 2.4 Carry out maintenance
- 2.5 Complete maintenance and record any follow-up actions
- 2.6 Ensure all safety guards are in place and tag removed before winder equipment is made operational
3. Conduct post-maintenance activities
- 3.1 Complete all required documentation clearly, concisely and on time
- 3.2 Ensure; housekeeping standard is met, and area is clear of foreign materials and tools
- 3.3 Ensure winding operations are tested and monitored
- 3.4 Advise appropriate personnel when maintenance activities are concluded
