Description
This unit describes the skills required to participate as a member of a team that is conducting explosive ordnance disposal operations. Explosive ordnance disposal operations can be conducted under a variety of conditions, including wartime, peacekeeping, in support of the civilian community/authority and also in training. This unit can apply above and below the high water mark.This unit applies to those who are required to contribute to explosive ordnance disposal operations. The individual is required to locate and identify explosive ordnance, prepare and refurbish the incident site or equipment, calculate and maintain safety distances and cordons, apply consequent mitigation principles, gather and secure evidence, and maintain documentation.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Those undertaking this unit would work independently as part of a team, under indirect supervision, while performing complex tasks in a broad range of contexts that could be unpredictable.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

1 Prepare for operations
  • 1.1 Identify and confirm requirement for participation in explosive ordnance disposal operations from briefings/instructions
  • 1.2 Collect, store and check for presence and serviceability of equipment, tools and stores required for explosive ordnance disposal operations
  • 1.3 Conduct planning prior to arrival at scene
2 Contribute to locating and identifying explosive ordnance and associated components
  • 2.1 Identify and locate explosive ordnance and associated components
  • 2.2 Determine safety and evacuation requirements
  • 2.3 Determine if the item can be blown in place or requires a render-safe operation
3 Contribute to the conduct of disposal procedures
  • 3.1 Identify and prepare for use of equipment, tools and stores required to dispose of explosive ordnance
  • 3.2 Operate equipment in accordance with current instructions
4 Finalise activities
  • 4.1 Conduct handover brief to relevant personnel
  • 4.2 Recover, refurbish and secure equipment
  • 4.3 Conduct post explosive ordnance demolition clearance
  • 4.4 Complete and process post explosive ordnance demolition reports
