Description
This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to plan, monitor and implement an instrument survey for a range of survey purposes. The unit includes evaluation of the survey and reporting of outcomes. The unit applies to those who conduct instrument surveys in a forest environment.Licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit in some states and territories at the time of publication, and may differ according to jurisdiction.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan instrument survey
  • 1.1 Identify and follow WHS, environmental, legal and organisational requirements relevant to conducting an instrument survey.
  • 1.2 Adhere to site environmental protection measures in line with relevant requirements.
  • 1.3 Check work order, identify survey purpose and check specifications with appropriate personnel.
  • 1.4 Relevant information is obtained, interpreted and analysed for impact on current survey.
  • 1.5 Coordinate and schedule survey tools, equipment and personnel requirements.
  • 1.6 Identify and organise permit or licence requirements.
  • 1.7 Select survey method/s and instruments and communicate survey schedule to appropriate personnel.
2. Implement and monitor instrument survey
  • 2.1 Establish and maintain regular communication with others in line with WHS requirements and to ensure continuous workflow and progress.
  • 2.2 Carry out instrument survey in line with work order and specifications in survey plan, consulting individuals and groups as required.
  • 2.3 Monitor and modify survey plan as required in response to equipment, personnel, site condition changes and environmental requirements.
  • 2.4 Conduct routine checks to ensure survey documentation and data are accurately and continuously recorded and completed.
  • 2.5 Routinely review survey progress to maintain efficient options, and hazards or impediments to the survey are promptly rectified.
3. Review instrument survey
  • 3.1 Compile and organise survey documentation and data for review.
  • 3.2 Prepare map or plan in line with survey requirements.
  • 3.3 Prepare survey report in appropriate format in line with organisational guidelines.
  • 3.4 Undertake evaluation of survey plan and processes and documented for use in reviewing and revising future instrument surveys.
  • 3.5 Record and report instrument survey outcomes in line with site procedures and organisational requirements.
