This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to operate raw material feed systems in Metalliferous Mining. This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for operating raw material feed systems
  • 1.1. Access, interpret and apply raw material feed systems documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions and shift changeover details before proceeding
  • 1.2. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the activity
  • 1.3. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
  • 1.4. Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues
  • 1.5. Communicate and coordinate activities with others throughout the work activity
  • 1.6. Perform pre-start-up checks
2. Deliver raw materials
  • 2.1. Clear conveyor belts at the earliest opportunity during emergency stop
  • 2.2. Empty conveyor belts prior to stopping
  • 2.3. Remove tramp metals from materials to prevent damage to equipment and conveyors
  • 2.4. Convey materials to bunkers minimising spillage
  • 2.5. Operate mobile and fixed equipment efficiently
