This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to supervise mobile plant operations in Coal and Metalliferous mining, Extractive and Civil construction.This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan, prepare for supervision of mobile plant operations
  • 1.1 Access, interpret, apply mobile plant operations documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Obtain, interpret and share with team members the geological and survey data required to complete the mobile plant operations
  • 1.6 Prepare and implement an action plan, in consultation with team members, making best use of the available resources
  • 1.7 Acquire and make available the necessary resources
  • 1.8 Issue clear and timely instructions to team members and others involved
  • 1.9 Monitor risk management and environmental protection and address non-compliance
  • 1.10 Ensure all team members are trained in emergency procedures and are prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Monitor, adjust and report on execution of the operations
  • 2.1 Ensure safe, effective and efficient use of mobile plant and equipment
  • 2.2 Monitor operations performance and ensure achievement of planned outcomes
  • 2.3 Initiate adjustments to work programs, in consultation with team members, to take into account non-achievement of planned outcomes
  • 2.4 Identify training requirements of individuals and teams
  • 2.5 Complete and submit reports
  • 2.6 Submit reasoned recommendations to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the operations
