Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to select and apply lighting to a range of subjects in different work spaces.It applies to individuals who use light and shoot photos in a variety of contexts, including the fashion industry, advertising, live entertainment and screen and media, as well as those who use photography as a creative medium.Testing and tagging of electrical equipment must be carried out by a person with the relevant certificate of competency according to the performance specifications of Australian Standard 3760: 2000 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment and Australian Standard 3002: 1985 Electrical installations - shows and carnivals.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Set up lighting for photo shoot
- 1.1 Confirm lighting characteristics required for subjects in consultation with relevant personnel
- 1.2 Select lighting equipment and accessories appropriate to purpose of required images
- 1.3 Determine work environment needs
- 1.4 Select appropriate camera system and accessories
- 1.5 Assemble camera and lighting systems according to production requirements
- 1.6 Use equipment and materials safely and to minimise waste
2. Light subjects
- 2.1 Position models and props as required
- 2.2 Test and modify lighting techniques to create the required effects
- 2.3 Adjust and calibrate camera settings to meet lighting arrangements
- 2.4 Collaborate with others to meet photo shoot timelines
3. Capture images
- 3.1 Use appropriate camera features and lighting techniques to shoot photos
- 3.2 Review images against work requirements
- 3.3 Adjust lighting and camera as required and complete shoot
- 3.4 Complete work documentation as required
4. Complete post-shoot activities
- 4.1 Dismantle work area after use and return to original condition
- 4.2 Clean and care for equipment according to manufacturer instructions
- 4.3 Report damage to equipment to relevant personnel according to enterprise procedures
- 4.4 Transport and store equipment according to workplace procedures
