Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate and control membrane filters.It includes monitoring membrane filtration plant, microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration, measuring and reporting on system performance and processing quality control. It also includes identifying faults, determining and applying adjustments and conducting chemical procedures.This unit applies to operational staff members with a specific responsibility for membrane filtration processes in treatment plants. Those undertaking this unit would work under appropriate supervision, while performing routine tasks, within a familiar context.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Determine work requirements from job specifications and plans
  • 1.2 Select and check equipment and tools required to meet safety requirements of task and worksite
  • 1.3 Select, fit and use required safety equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE)
2 Operate and control membrane filtration processes
  • 2.1 Conduct routine inspections according to workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Identify and report process faults to relevant personnel
  • 2.3 Collect process samples and conduct standard tests according to workplace procedures
  • 2.4 Interpret data and make process adjustments to maintain operational parameters
  • 2.5 Determine and apply chemical dosing for cleaning requirements according to workplace procedures

  • 3.1 Collect, interpret and record process data according to workplace and process requirements
  • 3.2 Identify data outside of normal operational parameters and report to relevant personnel for further action
