Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop competition vehicle preparation specifications, checklists and schedules, and to supervise the preparation and assembly of a motor sport competition vehicle. It involves researching information, assessing personnel capabilities and schedule constraints, and supervising others to prepare a competition vehicle and check the post-preparation vehicle and work area.The unit applies to those working in the motor sport industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Develop preparation specifications and checklists
- 1.1 Determine job requirements from competition information
- 1.2 Analyse rules, regulations, and vehicle specifications and tolerances for competitive advantage
- 1.3 Document and communicate work specifications to required personnel
2. Develop preparation schedule
- 2.1 Identify and source equipment and capabilities of required personnel to meet job specifications
- 2.2 Analyse constraints to schedule and document optimum sequence for vehicle preparation
- 2.3 Analyse critical path and document factors affecting that path
- 2.4 Finalise preparation schedule and distribute to required personnel
3. Supervise preparation
- 3.1 Monitor team adherence to preparation schedule according to team requirements
- 3.2 Monitor work area for layout according to job requirements and for cleanliness
- 3.3 Carry out checks of vehicle during and after installation of components to ensure complete fitting
- 3.4 Evaluate and resolve problems with work area or operation of equipment according to safety and environmental requirements
- 3.5 Evaluate proposals for modifications or adaptation of equipment and components and adapt or adopt changes as required according to team requirements
4. Supervise post-assembly checks
- 4.1 Inspect vehicle, and identify and address problems according to team requirements
- 4.2 Supervise post-preparation checks and vehicle start-up by team
- 4.3 Supervise vehicle baseline set-up by team
- 4.4 Supervise clean-up of work area by team
- 4.5 Carry out final inspection of work area and vehicle and complete documentation
