Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to conduct configuration management activities in accordance with relevant organisational policy and procedures. It includes preparing for, conducting, monitoring and reporting on configuration management activities. It also includes maintaining configuration management records in accordance with relevant organisational policy and procedures. The range of activities to be conducted includes collecting, storing, recording, recovering and analysing data; maintaining associated workplace networks; and stakeholder requirements.This unit was developed for configuration management specialists working within materiel logistics but may be applicable to individuals in broader logistics roles.Individuals work independently or as part of a team under direct or indirect supervision, use discretion and judgement, and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Prepare to conduct configuration management activities
- 1.1 Effective relationships are developed with stakeholders through consultation
- 1.2 Legislation and organisational policy that may impact on configuration management activities are identified and analysed
- 1.3 Required resources and equipment are identified, acquired and prepared in accordance with organisational procedures
- 1.4 Sources of information relevant to configuration management activities are identified and relevant information is obtained in accordance with organisational policy and procedures
- 1.5 Personnel involved in configuration management activities are briefed in accordance with standard procedures
2 Conduct configuration management activities
- 2.1 Configuration management methods and techniques appropriate to area are implemented in accordance with plans, schedules and standard procedures
- 2.2 Resources are allocated to configuration management activities in accordance with configuration management plan and resource availability
- 2.3 Configuration management activities are conducted and concluded in accordance with procedures and within resource constraints
- 2.4 Configuration management activities are monitored and amended based on changing circumstances in accordance with procedures
3 Monitor and report on configuration management performance and procedures
- 3.1 Configuration management performance, outcomes and recommendations are documented and reported to all stakeholders in a transparent manner in accordance with procedures
- 3.2 Configuration management reports are regularly reviewed and assessed to ensure capability system effectiveness is maintained throughout its life cycle, in accordance with procedures
- 3.3 Configuration management procedures are monitored and reviewed to ensure systems and equipment capability is maintained, in accordance with organisational policy
4 Maintain and complete configuration management records
- 4.1 Configuration management records are completed and maintained in accordance with organisational policy and procedures
- 4.2 Configuration management records are amended and documented in accordance with organisational policy and procedures
