Description
This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to establish a routine maintenance plan, and facilitate repairs for equipment.The unit applies to people working in a broad range of roles across different forest and forest product industry sectors. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan routine maintenance
  • 1.1 Review routine servicing requirements of site equipment, and prepare maintenance schedules.
  • 1.2 Determine and organize tools, equipment and material requirements for maintenance work.
  • 1.3 Plan, schedule and communicate maintenance procedures to appropriate personnel.
  • 1.4 Assign roles and responsibilities to personnel who hold required skills and expertise
  • 1.5 Plan maintenance processes in line with site procedures and environmental requirements, and modify in response to changes in equipment, personnel and site condition.
2. Monitor equipment operation
  • 2.1 Conduct work according to work order.
  • 2.2 Check site servicing and maintenance records for completeness and abnormal activity.
  • 2.3 Maintain stock levels of routine service items, and minor repair components, to maximise availability and optimum operational performance of equipment.
  • 2.4 Monitor equipment operation and identify operating faults and frequent or recurring breakdowns.
  • 2.5 Obtain expert advice and specialist assistance when required, according to site procedures.
  • 2.6 Review condition of equipment and ensure and efficient operation.
3. Facilitate equipment repair
  • 3.1 Conduct visual inspection and fault finding procedures.
  • 3.2 Diagnose and report faults, malfunctions or problems with equipment.
  • 3.3 Assess equipment breakdowns and select and organise suitable repairs.
  • 3.4 Organise movement of equipment to suitable repair site.
  • 3.5 Monitor and modify repair procedures as required.
  • 3.6 Periodically review and revise maintenance schedule to maintain operational integrity.
  • 3.7 Deal with equipment that cannot be repaired in line with site procedures, manufacturer recommendations and environmental requirements.
  • 3.8 Complete and maintain accurate records and reports for equipment repair and maintenance
