Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to develop and manage a dam safety inspection plan.It includes developing operational procedures, reviewing status of inspection plans, consulting with personnel and stakeholders, developing inspection checklists and gathering historical dam construction maintenance information. It also includes adhering to relevant legislation, industry standards and workplace procedures.This unit applies to those working as leaders with responsibility for developing and reviewing of dam safety and monitoring. Those undertaking this unit would work autonomously, leading staff, while performing sophisticated tasks in a range of familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Plan for dam safety inspections
  • 1.1 Identify, interpret and assess historical dam construction and maintenance information and evaluate as input to the planning process
  • 1.2 Identify and analyse legislation, workplace procedures, environmental requirements and operational procedures and requirements impacting dam safety inspection planning
  • 1.3 Identify, interpret and assess information relevant for dam safety inspection planning
  • 1.4 Identify, interpret and review the dam safety inspection plan
2 Develop dam safety inspection plan
  • 2.1 Identify, interpret and shortlist all factors to be used in the dam safety inspection plan
  • 2.2 Identify, interpret and validate stakeholder requirements, legislation and industry standards impacting the dam safety inspection plan
  • 2.3 Identify and develop operational procedures and inspection checklists used in conjunction with the dam safety inspection plan

3 Review and refine safety inspection plan
  • 3.1 Consult with dam operational personnel for on-site evaluation of the dam safety inspection plan and inspection checklists

  • 3.3 Recommend the implementation of the dam safety inspection plan and inspection checklists
