Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to inspect and operate water diversion systems.It includes coordinating the operation of surface water systems, measuring and reporting on surface water usage and system performance. It also includes collecting data, monitoring and adjusting regulatory systems, coordinating system performance and producing technical reports.This unit applies to those working as field operators with a specific responsibility for inspecting and operating surface water systems and for ensuring that flows are regulated according to organisational specifications and system demands. Those undertaking this unit would work under appropriate supervision, while performing routine tasks ensuring minimum damage to the environment, in a familiar context.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Inspect and report on surface water system performance and usage
  • 1.1 Schedule and complete routine inspections of surface supply areas according to licensing requirements
  • 1.2 Collect and record data on system capacity and flow to ensure system operational parameters are being met
  • 1.3 Use appropriate safety equipment, including personal protective equipment according to workplace procedures
2 Monitor inflows, outflows and releases
  • 2.1 Inspect flow regulating structures and adjust to meet demand requirements
  • 2.2 Monitor flows and coordinate diversions or extractions to control usage requirements, according to demand or local management rules
  • 2.3 Read meters, record volumes and enter data into database according to workplace procedures
3 Operate and coordinate system performance
  • 3.1 Locate and record process faults and operational conditions
  • 3.2 Adjust system parameters to optimise process performance
  • 3.3 Undertake routine maintenance according to product specifications and workplace procedures
4 Complete documentation
  • 4.1 Record inspection results according to workplace procedures
  • 4.2 Report data from inspection results to relevant personnel
