Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to facilitate the use of contingency plans that are developed to support the integrity of power generation facilities. Acontingency planis a course of action designed by a power generation facility to respond to potentially disruptive situations. Competency in this unit requires the ability to identify contingencies, identify preferred contingency plans and complete all documentation. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator with responsibility for contingency planning or risk management, in a power generation facility. Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

1 Identify contingencies
  • 1.1 Potential contingencies are identified, in accordance with legislative requirements and industry standards from a risk assessment of functions which are critical to the performance of the power generation facility
  • 1.2 Likelihood and impact of risks is assessed and evaluated, in accordance with workplace procedures and the risk management system, and is also discussed with appropriate personnel and stakeholders
2 Identify contingency plan processes
  • 2.1 Contingency plan processes are identified and applied, in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Roles and responsibilities for the contingency plan are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures
3 Complete documentation
  • 3.1 Power generating plant problems, movements and status are reported, in accordance with workplace procedures and contingency plan
  • 3.2 Documentation is updated, in accordance with workplace procedures
