Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research and evaluate processes and products to inform business opportunities in a textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) organisation. It includes the requirement to establish and analyse the opportunities, constraints and business implications of local and global trends, and to contribute to strategic planning to progress identified opportunities. Trends includes those related to design, technology, market forces, regulations, supply chain, sustainability and circularity.This unit applies to individuals working in senior design and production roles.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Research trends
  • 1.1 Select processes and products for investigation based on business needs
  • 1.2 Use research strategies to investigate global and domestic trends in relation to identified processes and products
  • 1.3 Establish opportunities, constraints and business implications of global and domestic trends on local industry from research findings
2. Determine production capabilities or implications
  • 2.1 Identify existing production capabilities in consultation with relevant personnel
  • 2.2 Identify and assess operational issues and resources associated with potential processes and products
  • 2.3 Determine options or requirements for external resources to undertake parts of work when defining production capabilities
3. Contribute to strategic planning
  • 3.1 Clarify planning parameters based on initial research and assessment in consultation with relevant stakeholders
  • 3.2 Prepare reports and presentations about processes and products in required workplace formats
  • 3.3 Develop and document information for a strategic plan that clearly identifies actions, resources, timelines and constraints for proposed processes and products
