OH&S requirements may include legislation, building codes, material safety management systems, hazardous and dangerous goods codes and local safe operating procedures

Work is carried out in accordance with legislative obligations, environmental legislation, relevant health regulations, manual handling procedures and organisation insurance requirements

Work involves the installation of resilient sheet to wet and dry walls and to bench tops and counters

Tools and equipment are to include:

flat trowel

notch trowel

pencil cove roller

wall roller

hard roller

cove and corner roller

recess scriber

hook and straight knife

chalk line

spirit level

tape measure

laser level

height gauge

contact bucket/tray/roller and brushes

Tools may include scaffolding

Adhesives are to include, but may not be limited to:

acrylic adhesives and water and solvent-based contacts recommended by manufacturers

Feathering systems are to include:

the fitment of PVC edge fillet diminishing strip and the use of pre-mixed or mixed cementitious compounds

Profiles are to include:

internal and external angles

bullnoses

coves and may include profiling to pipe work

Welding is to include:

rod welding

self welding and fusion

Trimming and finishing is to include:

timing weld rod

abrading and fusing external corners and chemically finishing to industry standards and manufacturers' specifications

Personal protective equipment

Personal protective equipment is to include that prescribed under legislation, regulations and enterprise policies and practices

Information and procedures

Workplace procedures relating to the use and operation of tools and equipment

Workplace instructions, including job sheets, plans, drawings and designs

Workplace procedures relating to reporting and communications

Manufacturers' instructions for the use of equipment and materials

The Evidence Guide identifies the critical aspects, knowledge and skills to be determined to confirm competency for this unit. This is an integral part of the assessment of competency and should be read in conjunction with the Range Statement.
Critical Aspects of Evidence
Interpret work order and locate and apply relevant information
Apply safe handling requirements for equipment, products and materials, including use of personal protective equipment
Follow work instructions, operating procedures and inspection practices to:
prevent damage to goods, equipment and products
maintain required production output and product quality
minimise the risk of injury to self and others
Work effectively with others
To complete a minimum of:
installation of a wet wall vinyl system, and
installation of a resilient sheet bench top which must include internal/external corners and bull-nose
Modify activities to cater for variations in workplace contexts and environment

The type, characteristics, uses and limitations of weldable resilient sheeting
The types and uses of resilient sheeting installation tools and equipment
The type, characteristics, uses and limitations of resilient sheeting installation adhesives
Workplace safety system requirements related to resilient sheeting installation
Characteristics and requirements of substrate- preparation
Workflow in relation to fixing, welding and finishing of resilient sheeting

Underpinning Skills
Information. Collect, organise and understand information related to work orders, plans and safety procedures
Communication. Communicate ideas and information to enable confirmation of work requirements and specifications, coordination of work with site supervisor, other workers and customers, and the reporting of work outcomes and problems
Planning. Plan and organise activities including the preparation and layout of the worksite and the obtaining of equipment and materials to avoid any back tracking, workflow interruptions or wastage
Teamwork. Work with others and in a team by recognising dependencies and using cooperative approaches to optimise workflow and productivity
Mathematical ideas and techniques. Use mathematical ideas and techniques to correctly complete measurements, calculate area, estimate resilient sheeting requirements and other material requirements
Solve problems. Use pre-checking and inspection techniques to anticipate installation problems, avoid reworking and avoid wastage
Use of technology. Use the limited workplace technology related to the installation of resilient sheeting including tools, equipment, calculators and measuring devices

Resource Implications
Resilient sheeting, adhesives, access to walls or bench tops requiring resilient sheet installation.

Method of Assessment
Assessment methods must confirm consistency of performance over time and in a range of workplace relevant contexts.
Assessment should be by direct observation of tasks and questioning on underpinning knowledge.
Assessment should be conducted over time and will generally be in conjunction with assessment of other units of competency.

Context of Assessment
Assessment may occur on the job or in a workplace simulated facility with relevant resilient sheet installation equipment, materials, work instructions and deadlines.

Key Competency Levels
NB:These levels do not relate to the Australian Qualifications Framework. They relate to the seven areas of generic competency that underpin effective workplace practices.
There are three levels available:
Level 1 where work is within set conditions and process
Level 2 where the management or facilitation of conditions or process is exercises; and
