Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment or procedures to cut materials to size, shape or pattern.This unit applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team.This unit applies to operators who are required to identify the requirements for the job, prepare material and equipment for the work, operate cutting tools/equipment, and recognise problems and take appropriate action.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Check work requirements
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply site policy and procedure documentation and ensure work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements, including product, materials and equipment
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select, use and maintain relevant personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • 1.5 Identify and perform housekeeping tasks in preparation for work to be undertaken
  • 1.6 Perform other pre-operational checks in preparation for cutting operation
2. Plan and prepare to use hand and power tools
  • 2.1 Obtain appropriate tools, parts, materials and procedures to meet job requirements
  • 2.2 Check tools for serviceability and safety, and report faults
  • 2.3 Visually check power leads or hoses for serviceability and safety, and report faults
  • 2.4 Sharpen, replace or change blades as needed according to equipment instructions
3. Cut rubber material
  • 3.1 Undertake required work activities according to workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Mark out for cutting based on work requirements
  • 3.3 Use or operate cutting tools or equipment to cut materials according to workplace procedures
  • 3.4 Monitor cutting operations to ensure quality of work meets job requirements
  • 3.5 Apply waste management strategies to clean and clear work area, and collect offcuts and other recyclable materials, for re-use or disposal according to workplace procedures
  • 3.6 Pause and stop equipment in normal and abnormal circumstances according to workplace procedures
4. Resolve faults
  • 4.1 Recognise and log process control variances and their issues
  • 4.2 Determine, prioritise and implement remedial and preventative actions based on identified issues and causes
  • 4.3 Accurately maintain records and logbooks
