Description
This unit describes the skills required to provide technical support in a scientific and/or research environment. It includes planning and organising technical duties, collecting and recording information, and compiling and reporting data. This unit applies to those working in technical support in a scientific and research environment.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Those undertaking this unit would work under supervision, while performing routine tasks in a range of familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan and organise technical duties
  • 1.1 Confirm outputs for defined area of responsibility and identify technical duties and responsibilities.
  • 1.2 Determine processes, resources, timelines and equipment requirements.
  • 1.3 Determine risk management practices, work health and safety, environmental and other legislative requirements.

2. Collect and record information
  • 2.1 Carry out technical duties under general direction.
  • 2.2 Collect and record information in accordance with planned processes and timelines.
  • 2.3 Use and maintain resources and equipment.
