Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to handle furniture and effects, and to apply basic principles and routine procedures in a range of furniture removal contexts in accordance with relevant industry codes of practice and workplace procedures.It includes preparing for removal, moving and loading furniture and effects in accordance with the removal plan to and from the removal vehicle, container or site.Work is performed under limited or minimum supervision generally within a team environment.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for removal
  • 1.1 Appropriate removal equipment and materials are selected and work areas are organised in consultation with client or agent
  • 1.2 Hazardous items are identified through consultation with client or agent in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Protective coverings and drop cloths are placed in packing and traffic areas in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Checks are made that client or agent has prepared specific items for removal in accordance with removal documentation and workplace procedures
  • 1.5 Routes for lifting and moving furniture and effects to vehicle are identified, and floors, pathways or stairs are cleared of obstacles and hazards before goods are handled
  • 1.6 Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected in accordance with work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations and workplace procedures
2 Move furniture items
  • 2.1 Furniture and effects are selected, lifted, moved and loaded onto vehicle or container in accordance with removal documentation and WHS/OHS regulations and workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Specialised lifting and moving equipment is selected and used in accordance with WHS/OHS regulations and workplace procedures
3 Load vehicle or container
  • 3.1 Vehicle or container is prepared for loading process, and furniture and effects are placed in accordance with removal documentation, client or agent requirements and workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Furniture and effects are loaded to vehicle or container and stowed in accordance with removal documentation and workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Required removal documentation is completed in accordance with workplace procedures
