Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to diagnose faults and repair broadcasting facilities and equipment in a variety of different environments. This includes documenting and testing repair procedures and ensuring maintenance and support is provided according to organisational standards.The unit applies to those who work with minimum supervision to repair faults, undertake routine maintenance and provide general technical support, working on single pieces of equipment and whole studios and systems. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Locate and repair faults
- 1.1 Identify and isolate equipment faults using diagnostic techniques and reference material according to organisational standards and safety requirements, obtaining specialist advice where required
- 1.2 Determine impact of repairs on broadcast operations in consultation with required personnel
- 1.3 Document maintenance requirements following industry and organisational procedures
- 1.4 Provide temporary service as required and confirm standards of existing equipment are met
- 1.5 Carry out equipment repairs within scope of job role or organise repair with specialist services according to organisational procedures
- 1.6 Test performance of equipment and confirm satisfactory operation
2. Undertake routine maintenance
- 2.1 Implement equipment upgrades as required and align systems to manufacturer standards and specifications
- 2.2 Carry out routine alignment and replacement of mechanical parts on broadcast systems
- 2.3 Advise required personnel if maintenance cannot be completed or faults outside planned maintenance schedule are identified
- 2.4 Check interconnection between equipment meets organisational standards
- 2.5 Implement preventative maintenance routines and carry out repairs and alterations as required
- 2.6 Check, update and maintain system logbooks and fault reports according to organisational procedures
- 2.7 Monitor system and equipment faults for trends
- 2.8 Confirm maintenance requirements and procedures are met in consultation with required personnel
3. Provide general technical support
- 3.1 Assist required personnel with facility-related technical queries
- 3.2 Communicate standards for use of facilities and equipment with required personnel
