This unit describes skills and knowledge required to extend own expertise in a specialised art form to develop a cohesive body of professional work for the public domain. It involves self-directed research and the independent, highly developed use of specialised materials, processes and techniques.The unit applies to those who work as creative practitioners, producing a professional standard of work that demonstrates a mature engagement with their chosen art form. The unit may be applied to any art form.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Maintain specialised knowledge of professional practice
  • 1.1 Initiate own exposure to contemporary practice in chosen art form
  • 1.2 Proactively identify and explore new and emerging technologies, materials and methodologies required for own art form
  • 1.3 Evaluate impacts of current and emerging trends on creation of ideas, production of work, and management of professional creative practice
2. Evolve ideas in specialised art form
  • 2.1 Research historical and contemporary themes and concepts in chosen art form
  • 2.2 Analyse motivations, philosophies and cultural origins of different works in chosen art form
  • 2.3 Identify new sources of ideas and research opportunities
  • 2.4 Identify potential for individualised or specialised research based on current practice
  • 2.5 Evolve own ideas, and develop innovative approaches and strategy for realisation of ideas
  • 2.6 Determine copyright and intellectual property requirements

3. Manage specialised resources
  • 3.1 Evaluate requirements for set-up, handling and storage of specialised materials, tools and equipment

  • 4.1 Create finished work of professional standard that meets requirements for public domain using command of technique, materials and processes
