Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to address the monitoring and implementation of environmental plans and procedures. Environmental planningis the process of meeting legislative and regulatory obligations, identifying risks, determining risk control strategies and responding quickly to incidents.Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan for quality control, monitor quality control and complete all documentation. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator or technician, in a power generation facility.Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

1 Prepare environmental plan and procedures
  • 1.1 Environmental site plans and procedures are identified and examined, in accordance with site and project requirements
  • 1.2 Environmental risks and impacts are identified for the project, in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Environmental site plans and procedures are selected, in accordance with the specific project and site requirements
2 Implement environmental plan and procedures
  • 2.1 Emergency procedures are implemented and environmental risks are controlled, in accordance with Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and site requirements
  • 2.2 Environmental activities are carried out, in accordance with workplace procedures and the requirements of the environmental plan
  • 2.3 Environmental control procedures are implemented, and maintained and risks are mitigated, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements
3 Review environmental project procedures
  • 3.1 Environmental procedures are assessed, using feedback from stakeholders and relevant data
  • 3.2 Environmental procedures are reviewed and rewritten, if required, in accordance with workplace procedures
4 Control environmental incidents
  • 4.1 Environmental incidents are identified and controlled, in accordance with the workplace procedures and environmental plan requirements
  • 4.2 Environmental incidents are recorded and reported, in accordance with workplace procedures and the environmental plan requirements
5 Monitor and report onapplication of environmental plan and procedures
  • 5.1 Application of the environmental plan processes and procedures are monitored and documented, in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 5.2 Environmental risks and incidents are reported, in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 5.3 Review of environmental plan is reported on, in accordance with workplace procedures
