This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to use concreting materials and equipment in Civil Construction.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to use concreting materials and equipment
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply concrete materials and equipment documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
- 1.4 Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- 1.5 Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage requirements
- 1.6 Select and check for faults all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks
2. Identify and select hand and power tools
- 2.1 Identify and select hand and power tools, according to their functions, operations, limitations and ability to meet the job requirement
- 2.2 Check lubricants, hydraulic fluid and water
- 2.3 Check tools, including leads and hoses, for tags, serviceability and safety, and report any faults
- 2.4 Check and maintain power tool guards, retaining bolts, couplings, gauges and controls in accordance with manufacturer recommendations
- 2.5 Select equipment to hold or support material during operation

- 3.1 Use hand tools appropriate to the task and materials
- 3.2 Use power tools for their intended purpose safely and effectively
- 3.3 Sharpen and maintain tools
4. Identify, select and use plant and equipment
- 4.1 Check plant and equipment for safety and report faults
- 4.2 Select and use plant and equipment matched to the work task
- 4.3 Check lubricants, hydraulic fluid and water
- 4.4 Maintain plant and equipment
5. Clean up
- 5.1 Clear the work area and dispose of, reuse or recycle material
- 5.2 Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and standard work practices
