Description
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to select, operate and maintain equipment and supplies. It requires the ability to read specifications and understand spatial on-site job requirements in relation to the use of equipment and supplies. Functions would be carried out under supervision, often in a team environment, and within organisational guidelines.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1Select equipment and supplies.
  • 1.1 Requirements of the job are clarified with relevant personnel according to organisational guidelines.1.2 Equipment and supplies are selected and prepared according to task requirements.1.3 Equipment is checked to ensure it is in safe working order.
  • 1.4 Transport of equipment and supplies is provided, where appropriate.1.5 Skills and knowledge are updated to accommodate changes in equipment and operations.
2Use equipment and supplies.
  • 2.1 Appropriate equipment is operated to meet task requirement according to manufacturer specifications.2.2 OHS requirements are adhered to.2.3 Spatial data is recorded accurately and according to specifications.
3Maintain equipment and replenish supplies.
  • 3.1 Operational maintenance of equipment, including mechanical problem solving, is undertaken according to organisational guidelines.3.2 Repair work is organised for unsafe or faulty equipment.3.3 Tools and equipment are stored safely in an appropriate location according to manufacturer specifications.3.4 Equipment maintenanceplan is maintained.
