Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform non-structural vehicle panel repairs to pre-paint condition. This unit involves preparing for the task, selecting and using specialist tools and equipment, repairing panels according to manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures, and completing workplace processes and documentation.The unit applies to those working in the automotive body service and repair industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for non-structural panel repairs
  • 1.1 Determine job requirements from workplace instructions
  • 1.2 Source and interpret workplace procedures and product manufacturer and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications
  • 1.3 Identify hazards associated with the work and manage risks
  • 1.4 Select and check equipment and hand and power tools for serviceability
  • 1.5 Plan work to minimise waste according to workplace procedures
2. Carry out non-structural panel repairs to pre-paint condition
  • 2.1 Repair panels using required repair methods, materials and equipment according to OEM specifications and safety and environmental requirements
  • 2.2 Finish repairs to pre-paint condition according to workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Obtain advice from required personnel if repair interferes with the vehicle’s trim or electrical and mechanical systems
3. Complete work processes
  • 3.1 Conduct final inspection according to workplace procedures and confirm vehicle is ready for use
  • 3.2 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Complete documentation according to workplace procedures
