Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to follow established environmental protection procedures when performing work in a forestry or wood products work environment.The unit applies to individuals who work in a broad range of roles and operations in the forest and wood products industry and are required to follow environmental protection procedures when performing routine work activities.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation, standards and industry codes of practice that apply to the workplace.No licencing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine environmental protection requirements for the work task
  • 1.1 Check work order and identify and clarify environmental protection requirements with appropriate personnel
  • 1.2 Identify and report existing and potential environmental hazards to relevant personnel
  • 1.3 Identify workplace procedures for responding to environmental hazards and associated risks
2. Ensure work practices follow environmental protection requirements
  • 2.1 Confirm that work practices comply with environment protection requirements
  • 2.2 Follow workplace procedures and industry codes of practice in responding to environmental incidents, accidents and emergencies within scope of own responsibility
3. Seek opportunities to improve environmental protection practices
  • 3.1 Suggest specific improvements to environmental protection practices to relevant personnel
  • 3.2 Identify and confirm updated changes in environmental protection procedures and work practices
  • 3.3 Record and report breaches or potential breaches of environmental protection requirements to relevant personnel according to workplace procedures
