Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply a quality assurance system to work.Quality control is a process to ensure that significant variations in quality are kept to a minimum. Quality control in a power generation facility will focus on a set of procedures intended to ensure that personnel, plant and equipment operate smoothly and efficiently. Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan and prepare quality procedures, conduct quality system practices and initiate changes to quality systems. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator in a power generation facility. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply from this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan and prepare to work withquality systems
- 1.1 Quality procedures are identified from relevant personnel and documentation in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.2 Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, codes of practice, manufacturers’ recommendations and specifications, environmental requirements and workplace procedures are identified, applied and monitored
- 1.3 Performance objectives are identified in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS) and workplace procedures
- 1.4 Work plan is structured to ensure quality standards are achieved in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Conduct quality systempractices
- 2.1 Quality assurance processes and procedures are implemented in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and specifications, and workplace procedures
- 2.2 Work is monitored against quality standards and sustainable energy principles, and clarified with relevant personnel in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.3 Allocated work tasks are completed in accordance with quality assurance requirements and workplace procedures
3 Initiate changes to quality systems
- 3.1 Improvements to quality assurance procedures are identified by analysis of system outcomes in accordance with quality assurance requirements and workplace procedures
- 3.2 Extent of proposed changes to quality procedures are investigated in accordance with quality assurance requirements and workplace procedures
- 3.3 Proposed improvements are negotiated and confirmed with relevant personnel in accordance with quality assurance requirements and workplace procedures
