Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct long line road marking operations in civil construction, including conducting pre-operational checks, operating long line road marking plant and carrying out operator maintenance. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under minimal supervision to undertake a broad range of tasks in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to conduct long line road marking operations
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to conduct long line road marking operations and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and implement traffic management signage requirements
  • 1.4 Select plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks and check for faults
  • 1.5 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures within scope of own role
  • 1.6 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Conduct pre-operational checks
  • 2.1 Check and inflate tyres according to job requirements
  • 2.2 Carry out pre-start, start-up, park up, shutdown and secure equipment procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 2.3 Check road marking plant controls and functions, including brakes and manoeuvrability for serviceability, and report faults as required
3. Operate long line road marking plant
  • 3.1 Drive and operate equipment according to manufacturer specifications and job requirements
  • 3.2 Manage engine power
  • 3.3 Position vehicle according to job requirements
  • 3.4 Apply road marking material according to job requirements
4. Carry out operator maintenance
  • 4.1 Prepare machine for maintenance
  • 4.2 Conduct inspection and fault-finding procedures
  • 4.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks according to manufacturer specifications
  • 4.4 Process maintenance records according to site requirements
5. Conduct clean-up activities
  • 5.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to site requirements
  • 5.2 Return surplus fuel and lubricants to storage according to site requirements
  • 5.3 Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
