This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to conduct workboat/barge operations in Coal and Metalliferous mining and Extractive.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.No licensing or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for workboat/barge operations
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply workboat/barge operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- 1.5 Access, interpret and clarify survey data for the work activity
- 1.6 Communicate and coordinate activities with others prior to, during and on completion of the work activity
- 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for an emergency
2. Operate workboat/barge
- 2.1 Carry out pre-start, start-up, mooring and shutdown procedures
- 2.2 Relocate, position and secure workboat/barge for operation
- 2.3 Select, interpret and apply operating techniques, and ensure effectiveness of operation in changing work conditions
- 2.4 Conduct, control and monitor operations
- 2.5 Act on or report monitoring systems and alarms
- 2.6 Continually monitor hazards and risks , and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
- 2.7 Complete the work plan within the operating capacity of the equipment
3. Carry out post-operational procedures
- 3.1 Inspect, fault find, report faults and recommend corrective actions
- 3.2 Process written records and reports
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
- 4.1 Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment
- 4.2 Report issues identified with plant, tools and equipment
