Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan and implement the assessment process and activities for a variety of dance styles and levels, according to specific learning outcomes.The unit applies to those who have assessment planning and advisory responsibilities, within the context of a dance school or studio setting. In planning activities and processes, individuals are required to identify the components of assessment tools and develop compliant assessment tasks and plans. In implementing an assessment plan, individuals are required to use judgement to gather evidence for assessing competence of a candidate using the developed assessment activities. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare the assessment plan and activities
  • 1.1 Identify the candidates and confirm the purposes and context of the assessment according to legal, organisational and ethical requirements, in consultation with required personnel
  • 1.2 Identify and access applicable industry or workplace standards for the assessment, and any specific assessment requirements according to chosen learning outcomes
  • 1.3 Identify the required skill level of candidates according to chosen dance style and learning outcomes
  • 1.4 Develop assessment plan according to the requirements of the identified dance style and learning outcomes, in consultation with required personnel
  • 1.5 Determine and record any required assessment activity modifications based on candidate requirements
  • 1.6 Develop assessment activities according to identified assessment plan and modification requirements of candidates
  • 1.7 Map assessment instruments against the learning outcomes
  • 1.8 Write clear instructions for the candidate and assessor regarding assessment activities
2. Prepare for assessment
  • 2.1 Arrange identified material and physical resource requirements
  • 2.2 Identify any specialist support requirements for the assessment and organise if necessary
  • 2.3 Check assessment venue and flooring is safe for assessment of chosen dance style as required
3. Assess candidate
  • 3.1 Use agreed assessment plan and activities to gather, organise and document evidence in a format suitable for determining competence
  • 3.2 Assess the collected evidence and evaluate whether it reflects the evidence required to demonstrate competence
  • 3.3 Make the assessment decision in line with agreed assessment procedures
  • 3.4 Provide clear and constructive feedback to the candidate regarding the assessment decision and document follow-up if required
4. Finalise and review assessment process
  • 4.1 Record assessment outcomes and submit required assessment documentation according to assessment procedures and confidentiality conventions
  • 4.2 Inform required personnel of assessment decision according to confidentiality conventions
  • 4.3 Review assessment process and identify opportunities for improvement in consultation with candidates and required personnel
  • 4.4 Document and record review according to required assessment system policies and procedures
