This unit describes skills and knowledge required to safely manage a variety of specialised finishing processes in the context of independent creative practice.It applies to individuals such as ceramicists, glass artists, sculptors, jewellers and others who use aesthetic and technical finishing options with hard materials in their practices.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Research options for finishing work

  • 1.2 Research historical and contemporary trends to inform approach to specialised finishing
  • 1.3 Compare the value of purchasing own tools and equipment against the potential benefits of constructing own tools and equipment
  • 1.4 Experiment with the building of own tools and equipment where appropriate,
  • 1.5 Investigate the specific safety issuesassociated with specialised finishingtechniques
2. Set up specialised finishingwork space
