Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to identify and respond to water quality problems.It includes monitoring, identifying and resolving water quality problems in water distribution systems. It also includes identifying and investigating operational problems, collecting samples, analysing technical information, communicating effectively with stakeholders and interpreting and applying incident management procedures.This unit applies to field and operational staff with a specific responsibility for monitoring water quality and responding to issues affecting water quality in distribution systems. Those undertaking this unit would work under appropriate supervision, while performing routine tasks, in a familiar context, and ensuring minimum damage to the environment.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Identify and locate water quality problems
- 1.1 Conduct monitoring of water quality according to workplace procedures
- 1.2 Investigate water quality problems and causes
- 1.3 Collect, analyse and report system data
- 1.4 Collect, label and record samples according to workplace procedures
- 1.5 Select, fit and use required safety equipment according to workplace procedures
- 1.6 Identify and communicate with customers and stakeholders according to workplace procedures
2 Respond to water quality problems
- 2.1 Analyse incidents and apply incident management procedures to resolve water quality problems
- 2.2 Notify customers and stakeholders of resolution to identified problems
- 2.3 Monitor and measure recovery of the system according to workplace procedures
- 2.4 Investigate and review results and take appropriate action according to workplace procedures
3 Complete documentation
- 3.1 Report process faults to relevant stakeholders according to workplace procedures
- 3.2 Document reports from system data according to workplace procedures
