Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage and monitor rig-up operations in drilling and well servicing. It prepares individuals to plan to manage and monitor rig-up operations, commence operations and prepare well control mix fluid. It applies to those working in management roles. They generally perform tasks involving a high level of autonomy which require the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment, roles and techniques for themselves and others. They are required to demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning skills.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that may apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to manage and monitor rig-up operations
  • 1.1 btain, confirm and apply work instructions for the allocated task
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply activity documentation and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 dentify and minimise environmental issues and potential hazards, and assess and address risks within scope of own role and according to workplace procedures
  • 1.4 onfirm personnel coordination requirements at the site are met prior to commencement of work activities
2. Commence operations
  • 2.1 ssess rig up well servicing program and communicate details
  • 2.2 dentify number and expertise of personnel required and obtained according to job requirements
  • 2.3 ssign crews tasks, communicate requirements verbally and supervise performance
  • 2.4 ssess safety requirements and communicate to all parties
  • 2.5 ndertake equipment checks and rectify and report faults as required according to legislative and company requirements
  • 2.6 stablish effluent disposal
  • 2.7 upervise spotting and rig assembly and rectify performance issues as required
  • 2.8 rrange and supervise engine power start-up
3. Prepare well control mix fluid
  • 3.1 einforce fluid preparation and environmental requirements with crew members
  • 3.2 onfirm circulation and rig up with crew
  • 3.3 ndertake safety inspection, confirm with crew and confirm compliance with regulatory and company requirements
  • 3.4 heck fluid mixing procedure and properties against well servicing program and confirm verbally with crew
