This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to optimise waste management operations to avoid or reduce waste generation. The unit covers assessing existing resource management processes and practices including measuring waste stream components, consulting with site personnel and conducting a cost analysis to identify the real cost of waste production. The unit also covers identifying and analysing opportunities for resource improvement and cleaner production, and developing and implementing a lean management program.
