This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to repair and splice conveyor belting in Coal and Metalliferous mining and Extractive.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.No licensing, legislation or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for repairing and splicing conveyor belting
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply service and maintenance documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3 Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activity
- 1.5 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and be ready for fire/accident/emergency
- 1.6 Access, interpret and apply geological and survey data
- 1.7 Identify and obtain required resources
- 1.8 Locate, position, make safe and clean the belting
- 1.9 Coordinate activities with others prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity
2. Carry out splicing and belt repair operations
- 2.1 Select and use tools and equipment
- 2.2 Complete splicing operation or belt repairs without damage to adjacent structures or equipment
3. Return conveyor to service
- 3.1 Carry out inspection of conveyor and auxiliary equipment
- 3.2 Test and test run conveyor belting
- 3.3 Return conveyor to service
4. Complete the work sequence
- 4.1 Clean, service and store equipment and tools
- 4.2 Restore worksite
- 4.3 Complete records and documents
