Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop general knowledge of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural arts industry and investigate cultural arts practices of local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists.The unit applies to individuals who are entering the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural arts industry. Individuals could be working in urban, regional, rural or remote settings. The work environment could involve interactions with artists and their communities in contexts such as cultural centres, arts centres, cooperatives, commercial galleries, public galleries, museums, retail outlets, community projects, exhibitions, events and festivals.This unit reflects the diversity of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures and their cultural arts practices. It emphasises the importance of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples controlling their own cultural heritage and identity.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Develop industry knowledge

- 1.2 Identify laws, regulations and codes of practice that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural arts industry
- 1.3 Identify cultural arts practices of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists
2. Investigate cultural arts practices
- 2.1 Identify local individuals, families or communities who produce cultural art
- 2.2 Describe artwork using required language and terminology
- 2.3 Determine local cultural protocols required for production, display, handling and storage of artwork
- 2.4 Collect and save information relating to artwork in required format
3. Maintain industry knowledge
- 3.1 Identify opportunities to update knowledge of industry
- 3.2 Identify industry employment opportunities
- 3.3 Update knowledge and employment opportunities in industry
