Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to use mobile electronic track warning system in accordance with regulatory requirements and rail network standards.It includes accessing, placing and removing mobile electronic track warning system in accordance with legislative requirements, rail network owner policies and procedures.People achieving competence in this unit will need to fulfil the applicable state/territory legislated rail safety requirements and to comply with relevant codes of practice and/or guidelines.Mobile electronic track warning system is a system that gives trackside staff audible and/or visible warning of the approach of rail traffic independently of the signalling system. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Access and transport mobile electronic track warning system
  • 1.1 Required mobile electronic track warning system is obtained in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.2 Hazards are identified, risks assessed and risk control measures implemented
  • 1.3 Mobile electronic track warning system is inspected and tested to ensure it is fit for use in accordance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and rail network standards
  • 1.4 Mobile electronic track warning system is stored and transported in accordance with workplace and/or rail network procedures
  • 1.5 Documentation is completed in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Place mobile electronic track warning system
  • 2.1 Advice is confirmed as to where the mobile electronic track warning system is to be placed
  • 2.2 Mobile electronic track warning system is placed in accordance with workplace and/or rail network procedures
  • 2.3 Mobile electronic track warning system is tested to ensure warning system is operating in accordance with workplace and/or rail network procedures
  • 2.4 Personnel are advised of protection arrangements for mobile electronic track warning system in accordance with workplace and/or rail network procedures
3 Remove mobile electronic track warning system
  • 3.1 Mobile electronic track warning system is removed, as advised, in accordance with workplace and/or rail network procedures
  • 3.2 Personnel are advised that mobile electronic track warning system has been removed in accordance with workplace and/or rail network procedures
  • 3.3 Mobile electronic track warning system is stored and returned in accordance with OEM and rail network procedures
  • 3.4 Defective mobile electronic track warning system is removed from service, reported and returned in accordance with OEM and rail network procedures
  • 3.5 Documentation is completed in accordance with workplace procedures
