This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to select and implement appropriate seedbed preparation techniques, and to survey and review the prepared seedbed. Work is completed in a forest environment setting.The unit applies to Arboriculture worker, Farm forestry worker, Forestry worker, Nursery workerPlantation establishment worker, Plantation forest officer, SilviculturistNo licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Where licensing for load shifting or other mobile equipment is required, the relevant units of competency should also be accessed and are to be met concurrently or prior to the achievement of this unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Select site preparation techniques and equipment
  • 1.1 Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.
  • 1.2 Select seedbed preparation technique in line with work order and obtain approval from appropriate personnel.
  • 1.3 Select appropriate tools, equipment, personal protective and other safety and check for serviceable condition.
2. Plan and prepare site
  • 2.1 Record site preparation plan in line with work order and environmental protection practices.
  • 2.2 Prepare seedbed using appropriate techniques in line with site preparation plan.
  • 2.3 Monitor seedbed preparation for issues, adjusting techniques and seeking assistance as required.
3. Survey and review seedbed
  • 3.1 Inspect seedbed and record findings in line with organisational procedures.
  • 3.2 Identify improvements to seedbed preparation methods and techniques and take remedial action as required.
  • 3.3 Record and report seed bed preparation processes and improvement suggestions to appropriate personnel.
