Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to make simple modifications to existing patterns for textile products. Textile products may be apparel or other non-wearable items. Types of modifications may include adding opening or closure, lengthening or shortening, adding seams and applying pockets.This unit applies to individuals completing work in accordance with pre-determined specifications and established procedures.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for pattern modifications
  • 1.1 Identify pattern pieces, markings and required style modifications from work specifications
  • 1.2 Confirm pattern components against pattern specification sheet
  • 1.3 Identify fabric performance characteristics that may affect modifications
  • 1.4 Select and prepare patternmaking tools and equipment based on scope and nature of modification
2. Modify and finalise pattern
  • 2.1 Use basic patternmaking principles to make modifications on identified pattern pieces
  • 2.2 Identify and action opportunities to minimise waste in the patternmaking process
  • 2.3 Measure and cut modified pattern pieces and confirm accuracy against specifications
  • 2.4 Label pattern pieces with required information to support production
