Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform basic dance partnering techniques for small audiences. It involves using knowledge of influences in different dance partnering styles when performing short dance sequences.The unit applies to those who have a foundational level of dance partnering techniques. They may have experience performing in amateur performances, community events, or attending multiple dance classes. At this level, basic dance partnering techniques are applied under the supervision of experienced dancers and dance teachers.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Develop basic dance partnering techniques
  • 1.1 Perform warm-up routine according to safe dance practices
  • 1.2 Identify variety of basic dance partnering skills under guidance of a mentor
  • 1.3 Practise coordinating with partner while demonstrating basic dance partnering techniques
  • 1.4 Develop connection with partner including verbal and non-verbal communication and rapport
  • 1.5 Follow advice and feedback from others during practice session about ways to improve own dance partnering technique
2. Prepare for and perform short dance partnering routines
  • 2.1 Discuss intention and key aspects of routine to be performed with required personnel, incorporating knowledge of influences in dance partnering styles
  • 2.2 Apply basic make-up and wear costume for performance as required
  • 2.3 Work with partner to develop skills for interpreting and performing dance sequences according to safe dance practices
  • 2.5 Perform basic routine combining different movements according to performance requirements
  • 2.6 Use props as required according to intention of dance partnering routine
  • 2.7 Follow direction from required personnel during performance
  • 2.8 Observe and follow dictates of music and rhythm
3. Review performances
  • 3.1 Evaluate own performance and use of basic dance partnering techniques
  • 3.2 Seek feedback from others on performance and use of dance partnering techniques
  • 3.3 Use own evaluation and feedback from others to develop strategy for improving dance techniques
