Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to read and interpret plans and drawings applicable to installing irrigation systems.It applies to individuals who take responsibility for own work and for the quality of the work of others. They use discretion and judgement in the selection, allocation and use of available resources. All work is carried out to comply with workplace procedures.No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Apply commonly used symbols and abbreviations
  • 1.1 Identify, understand and apply commonly used symbols and abbreviations on plans
  • 1.2 Identify, understand and apply common irrigation terms used on plans
  • 1.3 Identify key features of irrigation plans, elevations and sections
  • 1.4 Identify scale, elevations and sections from drawings
2. Locate and identify key features on a site plan
  • 2.1 Identify irrigation site from location drawings
  • 2.2 Identify true north and system orientation from details provided on site plan
  • 2.3 Identify key features of site plan
3. Mark out and peg the site from a plan
  • 3.1 Mark boundaries of the site
  • 3.2 Identify existing irrigation infrastructure on the site
  • 3.3 Identify electricity and communications infrastructure on the site plan, mark out and implement safety procedures
  • 3.4 Peg out pipelines and earthworks identified on the plan
4. Identify required components for installation
  • 4.1 Annotate required pipeline components from plans and drawings
  • 4.2 Annotate water supply, distribution and delivery components from plans and drawings
  • 4.3 Make provision for receival and storage of materials on site
  • 4.4 Confirm installation requirements and details of plans and drawings with supervisor
