Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to clean and maintain vehicle spray painting equipment. This unit involves preparing for the task, selecting and using cleaning materials and equipment, preparing spray painting equipment for vehicle refinishing activities, and completing workplace processes and documentation.The unit applies to those working in the automotive refinishing industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
- 1.1 Identify job requirements from workplace instructions
- 1.2 Identify hazards associated with the work, assess potential risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies and procedures
- 1.3 Identify tools, equipment and chemicals required for repair activity and establish serviceability according to workplace procedures
2. Set up spray painting equipment ready for use
- 2.1 Set up, test and maintain spray guns according to workplace and manufacturer procedures, workplace health and safety and environmental requirements
- 2.2 Set up paint mixing system and paint agitators and establish serviceability according to manufacturer specifications
- 2.3 Set up paint drying systems and inspect for correct operation according to workplace procedures
- 2.4 Check pressure regulators and air lines according to workplace procedures
3. Complete work processes
- 3.1 Conduct final inspection according to workplace procedures and confirm equipment is ready for use
- 3.2 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
- 3.3 Complete documentation according to workplace procedures
