Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) responsibilities for stock identified with a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) purchased directly from a producer or vendor prior to their arrival at an abattoir.This Unit is applicable for those managing and identifying livestock fitted with RFIDs prior to their arrival at an abattoir.All work should be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, customer requirements and product specifications.This unit applies to individuals who work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work including limited responsibility for the work of others. They provide and communicate solutions to a range of predictable problems.No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.This unit must be delivered and assessed in the context of Australian meat processing standards and regulations.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Confirm requirements with producer
  • 1.1 Ensure producer is made aware of all requirements when booking stock in
  • 1.2 Ensure a completed National Vendor Declaration (NVD) is provided with the stock
  • 1.3 Request additional/missing information as necessary.
2. Validate the Property Identification Code (PIC)
  • 2.1 Ensure PIC listed on the NVD is valid by using a PIC validity checker, e.g. Quick PIC, NLIS Database
  • 2.2 If invalid, contact producer to resolve and advise livestock staff
3. Schedule delivery
  • 3.1 Make delivery arrangements according to workplace requirements
