Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan music performance programs and present music performances in any musical genre.The unit applies to those who are working as instrumentalists or vocalists and who use high level technical, musicianship and stagecraft skills to engage audiences in a wide range of repertoire.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan music performance program
- 1.1 Clarify expectations and performance brief for music performance with required personnel
- 1.2 Assess own repertoire, research new repertoire possibilities and select suitable items for balanced performance program
- 1.3 Sequence items of performance program, confirming sequence provides for maximum audience engagement and is within own physical performance ability
- 1.4 Assess each item of music performance program against own strengths and weaknesses in performance, taking advice from others as required
- 1.5 Determine and obtain resources and equipment required for performance
- 1.6 Finalise performance program in consultation with required personnel as required
- 1.7 Confirm work health and safety (WHS) requirements relating to venue are met
2. Prepare for music performance
- 2.1 Engage in coaching, private practice and rehearsal sessions and confirm performance is in line with required standard
- 2.2 Cultivate rapport with accompanists and other artists during rehearsal
- 2.3 Explore interpretations and musical expression, and select and develop those most suited to music, performance context and own technical ability
- 2.4 Seek and incorporate feedback during performance preparation, and develop and improve performance as required
- 2.5 Arrange a warm-up space to tune instruments and warm up physically as required, and confirm that sound production for performance is secure
- 2.6 Minimise performance anxiety using required techniques
3. Perform before an audience
- 3.1 Establish and maintain communication with audience, other artists and stage personnel using eye contact and body language as required
- 3.2 Confirm that instrumental and vocal tuning, sound production and technical performance standard are maintained throughout performance, and adjust own performance as required by listening and responding to cues
- 3.3 Sustain interpretation and expressive communication with audience and maintain energy and focus throughout performance
- 3.4 Mitigate errors during performance using performance recovery measures, confirming minimum disruption to performance flow and audience experience
- 3.5 Respond to audience as required when entering and leaving the stage, accepting applause, acknowledging required personnel and providing encores
4. Evaluate music performance
- 4.1 Evaluate performance according to performance brief
- 4.2 Review own performance against existing work and assess technical and artistic development
- 4.3 Identify and note weaknesses and errors in performance for analysis and remediation
- 4.4 Seek and use feedback from required personnel and develop improvement strategies for future work
